Aerospace Engineering Concentration

Launching Fall 2027

A new opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Aerospace Engineering concentration beginning Fall 2027. Building on a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, this concentration provides students with specialized coursework in aircraft, spacecraft, propulsion, and control systems, preparing them to pursue careers in the rapidly expanding aerospace industry.

Whether your interests are in aircraft, spacecraft, propulsion, or the technologies shaping the future of flight and space exploration, the Aerospace Engineering concentration provides a pathway to turn those interests into an engineering career.

Why Choose the Aerospace Engineering Concentration?

Be Part of Louisiana's Growing Aerospace Future

Growing Industry Demand
With unprecedented aerospace investment and new opportunities emerging in Louisiana, the demand for engineers with specialized knowledge in aerospace systems is critical to the industry's success. The Aerospace Engineering concentration prepares students with the advanced technical expertise needed to meet industry demands and contribute to the innovation and development of next-generation aerospace systems.

Two Areas of Emphasis
Students can tailor their technical electives toward one of two areas of emphasis:
• Thermal-Fluids-Energy – focused on fluid mechanics, thermal systems, propulsion, combustion, and aerospace power systems

• Mechanics & Control – focused on aerospace structures, dynamics, controls, vibrations, composite materials, and spacecraft systems

Prepare for a Career in Aerospace Engineering

The Aerospace Engineering concentration prepares students for technical careers across a broad range of aerospace applications. Coursework provides a strong foundation in areas such as:

• Gas dynamics and propulsion
• Spacecraft dynamics and control
• Aerospace structures and design
• Aircraft dynamics and performance
• Orbital mechanics
• Aerospace power systems
• Aerospace payload design

Graduates will be prepared to pursue career opportunities in aerospace engineering, aircraft and spacecraft systems, propulsion, controls, and other areas where mechanical engineering expertise is applied to aerospace technologies.

The College of Engineering's new Aerospace and Autonomous Systems minor complements the Aerospace Engineering concentration, providing students with additional pathways to develop expertise in aerospace and related emerging technologies.

Connect Engineering Education to Louisiana's Aerospace Future

The Aerospace Engineering concentration is part of the College of Engineering's broader effort to develop the engineering talent and technological capabilities needed to support aerospace manufacturing, mission development, space systems, and other aerospace activities in Louisiana.
